Approach

HOK Sport Venue Event offers a renewable scholarship to a Kansas City area high school senior whose economic circumstances would make pursuing a degree in architecture unlikely.

The 2008 application deadline was April 1, and required the following:

  • Completed scholarship application form.
  • Letter of acceptance by University (if available).
  • Two letters of recommendation from individuals who are not related to you.
  • High school transcript.
  • ACT Financial Aid Need Estimator Report (if available).
  • Copy of most recent 1040EZ, 1040A or 1040 IRS Forms filed by all household members.

Next year's applications will be available here, from the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation at (816) 842-0944, and from area high school guidance counselors beginning in the fall.

What you get:
A 5-year architecture scholarship that includes:

  • Tuition, books, supplies, room and board*
  • A paid summer internship with HOK Sport Venue Event
  • A job opportunity with HOK Sport Venue Event following college graduation

* Tuition, books, supplies, room and board are determined based on the published estimated expenses for each academic year. Residence in university housing is required for the first two years of the scholarship. In the student's junior year, a computer will be provided that meets minimum system requirements as described by the university.

Who is eligible:
Consideration for this scholarship is open exclusively to:

  • Graduating high school seniors with financial need
  • from Cass, Clay, Douglas, Jackson, Johnson (KS), Leavenworth, Platte, Ray and Wyandotte counties
  • who plan to pursue a degree in architecture at either Kansas State University (Manhattan campus) or the University of Kansas** (Lawrence campus)
  • To be eligible, students must have applied to, and been accepted into, the architecture program at one of those schools.

** Please note that both schools no longer offer a stand-alone Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) degree. Instead, students will pursue a 5-year accredited Master of Architecture (M.Arch.) degree.

Dates
The scholarship recipient will be announced in early May.
